Some of the common signs of a stroke are:

  1. Face Drooping – one side of the face droop or is it numb.  Ask the person to smile.  Is the person’s smile uneven?
  2. Arm Weakness – Is one arm weak or numb?  Ask the person to raise both arms.  Does one arm drift downward?
  3. Speech Difficulty – Is speech slurred?  Is the person unable to speak or hard to understand?  Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like “The sky is blue.”  Is the sentence repeated correctly?

People suffering from a stroke may also experience:

  1. Balance disorder or vertigo
  2. Visual problems, like double vision or blurred vision, sometimes even sudden visual loss or rapid involuntary eye movement
  3. Sensory issues, like pins and needles or reduced sensation of touch.
  4. Sudden paralysis.
